It truly has been awhile since I saw his sweet face. In planning our 10 year high school reunion, I was reminded of this. Life has changed so much for me in the last 10 years (as you probably remember from the NOVEL length post I typed on this subject just the other day). Time has both flown by and crept at a snails pace; isn't it odd how that happens? I have been calling, texting, facebook-ing, and myspace-ing (I realize the grammatical problems with that, but let's not get sidetracked) people concerning the event. One by one, I am crossing people off my list. Yesterday, it happened. I had to cross another classmate off my list, but not because I had located him. Unfortunately and sadly, I know exactly where he lies.

It truly has been awhile since I saw his sweet face. He was my dear friend. He could always be counted on for a hug and a grin. He was a good listener. He cheered me on at basketball games and drove me around the track when I was Homecoming Queen. Yesterday, as I crossed his name off our list, I got a little emotional. He won't be there at our ten year reunion. He will never marry or have a family of his own. His life is over, but his memory lives on in my heart. Tonight, I was sifting through old pictures and I found a few of the two of us. In each picture, he was smiling from ear to ear (which was the norm for him). I will always treasure the memories of our friendship.
In loving memory of Gregory Dean Thompson...
